Walt Whitman’s Birthday Month!

 

We start May celebrating Walt Whitman’s 201st birthday ALL MONTH LONG! He was born on May 31st, 1819, in West Hills, New York.

For our first reading, Are you the new person drawn toward me?, I chose this cool portrait, taken around 1869 by G. Frank Pearsall.

Note: The word “maya,” in the last line, was first used in 1788 with a broad meaning of “illusion.” After 1825, it came to be the more familiar reference to the Mayan people.
