Captain Christy’s Thanksgiving by Carolyn Sherwin Bailey
Thanksgiving is only recently in our past and Advent is yet to come upon us, so here’s one more Thanksgiving story for the season–
American author, Carolyn Sherwin Bailey, was born in 1875, started her writing career at age 19, graduated from Columbia University in 1896, published four well-researched early American arts and crafts books for children, won the Newbery Medal for her book, Miss Hickory, in 1947, and wrote a long list of more short stories and works of nonfiction.
Here is her story of Captain Christy’s Thanksgiving, in which she transplants you onto a New England beach at Thanksgiving, warming your hearts, as well as your hands, at the hearth of a good story. Enjoy!
