What the Wood-Fire Said by Frank L. Stanton

 

Today’s poem is a typical example of the lyrical style of Stanton, born just before the Civil War and future newspaper man for the Atlanta Constitution. Just as James Whitcomb Riley is Indiana’s poet, Stanton has been called the James Whitcomb Riley of the South and was also Georgia’s first poet laureate.
