Leisure (It is Spring Break, after all!)
Not only is it Spring Break and April, it is National Poetry Month! I found this poem, by Amy Lowell, that takes me back to my childhood days of endless sunshine, cloud watching, and playing with neighbor kids–she says it just a little more eloquently! (Here she is as a child, pictured with her dog)
Ms. Lowell was a strong proponent of free verse, which she described as “based on cadence . . . allow[ing] the lines to flow as they will . . . an organic rhythm . . . of the speaking voice with its necessity for breathing.”
With her definition of free verse and the suggestions within the poem, what images are brought to your mind?
